Faking It

While browsing through one of my favorite websites I came across an upcoming exhibition called Faking It at The Met. It's the first major exhibition for manipulated photographs before the age of Photoshop. The exhibition is divided into 7 sections based on the purpose the photographer had in manipulating the image. Some photographers tried to overcome the challenges of early photography to better represent nature and create more artful photos, while others used manipulation for a political message. Many famous 19th c. photographers like Gustav Le Gray, Carleton E. Watkins, and Oscar Gustave Rejlander are featured. If you're in New York anytime between Oct 11, 2012 and Jan 27, 2013 it looks like this exhibition would definitely be worth seeing.

  1. That photo is amazing. I am so impressed by the ability of these photographers to create such artistic photos. They have to work so much harder than we do to create images like this. I appreciate this so much more than a photoshopped image.

  2. Good find, Shelby! I bet it was difficult to pick just one photo to post, too. But that's a great choice!
