Throughout my research for our photographer presentation, I found some very interesting information on our artist. Sandy Skoglund's first inspiration for photography came while she was living with her husband in a trailer in upstate New York. She was greatly inspired by the countertops in the kitchen. The idea that luxuries from other countries such as stone marble countertops were mimicked in the United States and pretty much thrown in our faces. The idea of home decor advertisement and color really intrigued her and influenced her work. The idea of luxury countertops being mimicked into cheap formica ones was her main focus of design in her first photographs. I love how the food she displays on top of the countertops also mimics the design of the countertops.
