Michael Kenna

I chose to write about Michael Kenna's "Silent World," because of its striking similarities to this weeks lecture "State of the Art." Most notably, Callahan, Eleanor, 1947 and the adjacent photograph. The photographs above and those in our lecture have a sense of infinite space; defined by a rich white negative space that in a way becomes the positive space.  This richness is accented by simplistic but pure black elements.  The photos are abstracted to the point that they feel surreal, yet still have definable qualities.  They are incredibly dream like, and the small amount of gradient adds to this mindset.
Check out the whole collection including 143 photographs.
