A photographer I'm considering for the research assignment is Vik Muniz. I like that a lot of his work crosses the borders of many different mediums and he uses photography as a means to document some of his other art work, like his portraits that use found objects.
Even in his work that is seen as more traditional photography, you see the use of his hand in his images which really intrigues me.
Something I'm working on getting over is always being extra cautious when a photographer does more "tinkering" than composition with the original limitations of a camera. It seems Vik Muniz has a wide range of work dealing with photography so your research will be interesting to read here in a couple months.
